The Company

The Fromagerie F. X. Pichet inc. specializes in the production of organic cheeses. Its most popular product among consumers is Le Baluchon, a semi-firm cheese made from raw milk and free of any modified milk substances. All its cheeses are made from organic milk. In recent months, two new products have been marketed by the company’s new owners: Le Réserve de la Pérade, a semi-firm refined cheese, aged for 90 days, with a stronger taste than Le Baluchon; and Le Cru de Champlain, a soft buttery cheese, with fruity accents, made in small 300-g disks. With co-owners Michel Pichet and Marie-Claude Harvey at the helm, the company distributes its products to grocery stores and specialized boutiques throughout Québec, along with selling its products at its cheese refinery in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade.

The Reason for Intervention

CFAI invested $150,000 in this company on April 30, 2008, so that it could acquire a cheese refinery and the cheese production equipment it needs to broaden its range of organic cheeses.
